- Name: The Gatekeeper Organization
- Founded in: before 0et (et=Earth time)
- Purpose of existence: To protect the people of Earth-R from activities deemed criminal, focusing on slavery.
- Functions of organization: The gatekeeper organization acts as the all-knowing and all-seeing protector of the people. the gatekeepers take care of major crime outside the cities and take over inner-city cases that involve slavery, or that are beyond the capabilities of the city police force. the gatekeepers also function as a protection detail for trade caravans that travel along protected routes. the final function of the gatekeepers is to act as an army against the various bandit tribes, badlands gangs, terrorist cells, and anarchist militias that roam the areas surrounding the various settlements that populate Earth-R.
- Membership: all potential combat recruits go through an extremely through background check before being allowed to apply or be recruited. all who pass the background check are put through a series of intensive training exercises designed to weed out any that might be a weak link in the organization. the activities that trainees must go through include the following: crawling through a tunnel filled with dismembered corpses and sewer sludge; sitting in a improvised shelter for 48 hours with 40 mph winds, hail the size of baseballs, and temperatures below -100 degrees Celsius; dragging a fully armored body into cover while being shot at by warbots equipped with nonlethal ammunition; getting blown up while sitting in a sculley (transport vehicle similar to armored humvee); fast-roping into a burning tower through a hole in the roof while being thrown around by gale force winds; free-falling from the edge of Earth-R's atmosphere in standard paratrooper armor; and participating in a full-scale war against seasoned veterans using stun ammunition. If a recruit shows any signs of cowardice at any time during the training, they are immediately ejected and sent home. All those who wish to enlist as a dispatcher must go through a series of tests that gauges the intelligence of the recruit. any recruits that do not have an above average intelligence level are ejected. all recruits then go through another series of exercises that tests how the recruits interact with others. any recruits that show signs of being a bully or an abuser of power is ejected. Recruits must then take a lie-detector test and swear their eternal loyalty to the gatekeeper organization and the gatekeeper's cause. After the recruits take this test, they are given a crash course in basic strategy and the moral code of the gatekeeper organization.then the trainees go through various strength building exercises, followed by a medical course including; recondition of different species, anatomy of various species, medical tools and their usage, diseases and treatment, and medical triage procedure. recruits then receive negotiations training, take a class in combat resources overview, receive an overview of squad and division functions, and memorize the gatekeeper organization rulebook. after this, dispatch recruits are sworn in while combat recruits must complete an additional 6 months of battlefield training before they too are sworn into the gatekeeper organization. Most of the recruits are slaves or civilians that have been rescued by the gatekeepers and recommended for duty by a gatekeeper veteran. if a recruit has been recommended by a veteran, they may pass over some aspects of the training depending on the veteran's evaluation of their skills and morals.
- Organization of members: see "Gatekeeper organization: divisions and squads"
- Estimated number of members: Classified
- Misc: All Gatekeeper organization members are offered the option of becoming immortalized. this simply means that the immortalized individual will remain the same age forever. because of this, the gatekeepers insist that members wait until they have reached their species' age of full maturity before undergoing the imortalization process.
